Weed Club Chueca Barrio – A Stoner’s Journey Through Madrid’s LGBTQ+ Scene

If you’ve ever stepped foot in Chueca, you know it’s Madrid’s unapologetic heart of LGBTQ+ culture—a place where the rainbow never fades, and the party never stops. As a bisexual guy, moving just a block away felt like stepping into a world where self-expression wasn’t just accepted; it was the norm. Drag shows, fetish bars, bear clubs, twink havens—you name it, Chueca’s got it. But you know what I never saw? A weed coffee shop proudly waving a rainbow flag.

A Brief History of Chueca – Madrid’s LGBTQ+ Capital

Chueca wasn’t always the queer paradise it is today. Back in the day, this neighborhood was kind of rough—rundown buildings, a shady rep, and not exactly the hotspot it is now. But in the ‘80s and ‘90s, as Spain was shaking off the last remnants of the Franco era, the LGBTQ+ community started reclaiming the barrio. Pride celebrations got bigger, gay bars popped up everywhere, and Chueca became the epicenter of queer life in Madrid. Now? It’s a rainbow-colored wonderland of freedom, nightlife, and culture. But still—no obvious weed spots.

Searching for Weed in Chueca

First week in my new place, I hit the streets looking for a cannabis club. I found bars that catered to every niche, a club for every subculture, and even a friendly stranger who casually asked me if I had any coke (Madrid nightlife, am I right?). But when it came to cannabis, there was no neon sign, no “weed-friendly” café, and certainly no dispensary with rainbow branding. Unlike other aspects of Chueca’s nightlife, cannabis remained tucked away in the shadows.

My First Weed Club Experience – Cuatro Caminos

Determined to find a real weed spot, I joined a club in Cuatro Caminos. Let me tell you—amazing experience, but definitely a boys’ club. Picture a room full of Spanish locals, regulars who knew each other, and me, the obvious outsider. The quality was top-tier, but it lacked the open, diverse energy that made me love Chueca.

The Fancy Noviciado Club – LGBTQ+ Vibes but Mid Weed

A few weeks later, I found myself at one of Madrid’s most exclusive social clubs in Noviciado. This place had a high-end feel, a mix of international members, and—finally—other LGBTQ+ folks openly enjoying their smoke. It felt inclusive, but the weed? Meh. It just didn’t hit right. I still went back for their DJ nights and yoga classes (shoutout to DJ Bianchi, who also owns a killer coffee shop in Malasaña), but for cannabis, I kept searching.

The Hidden LGBTQ+ Weed Club Near Malasaña

Then came the jackpot. A friend tipped me off about a club near my office on Calle de la Pez, right on the border of Chueca and Malasaña. Run by a badass lesbian couple, this place had trans, gay, and straight staff, a crowd as diverse as the city itself, and, most importantly—the best weed I’d found in Madrid. The atmosphere was electric, the playlist on point, and the drinks ridiculously cheap (think €1 beers). And finally, rainbow flags proudly hanging among the décor.

Finding LGBTQ+ Friendly Weed Clubs in Chamberí, Barcelona & Alicante

After getting my membership in Malasaña, I realized I had tapped into a whole new world. My search didn’t stop there. Chamberí, one of Madrid’s more upscale and traditional barrios, turned out to have a surprising number of good weed clubs. The crowd was mixed—some local madrileños, some expats, and a handful of queer-friendly spaces where you could actually feel at ease lighting up without side-eyes.

Then, Barcelona. If you think Madrid’s weed scene is discreet, Barcelona takes it to another level. But the cool part? They have way more LGBTQ+ friendly cannabis clubs. Some of them are basically mini queer lounges—rainbow decor, chill spaces, and a mixed crowd that doesn’t make you feel like an outsider. I hit up a few places near the Eixample district (a.k.a. Gaixample, because it’s the gayest area in Barcelona), and let’s just say, they know how to do weed right.

And then there’s Alicante. Not exactly the first place you think of for cannabis culture, but I found a club near the beach that had a solid LGBTQ+ community vibe. It was smaller and more lowkey, but still, a spot where you could light up, chill, and be around people who actually get it.

The Future of LGBTQ+ Friendly Weed Clubs in Spain

This whole journey made me realize something: while Chueca dominates Madrid’s LGBTQ+ scene, the best weed spots are still lowkey. But that’s changing. More inclusive spaces are popping up, and soon, I’ll be writing about LGBTQ+ friendly cannabis clubs across Spain.

So, if you’re looking for a weed club in Chueca, know this: it’s not about flashy signs or tourist traps. The real scene is underground, members-only, and all about who you know. And now, you know me.
